About Bullion

Bullion is a private ledger for the gold and silver you actually hold. Record every coin and bar you buy or sell, and Bullion values your stack against live GBP spot prices, tracks your true cost basis, and shows exactly what you have made — realised and unrealised — in a focused, dark interface built for a glance or a deep dive.

It is designed for stackers and long-term holders of physical metal who have outgrown spreadsheets. There is no broker, no trading, and no noise: just your holdings, the live price, and an honest picture of how your metal is performing.

Platforms: iPhone (iOS 17+)

Price: Free — no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads

Core Features

  • Live Spot Valuation — Your whole portfolio valued against live gold and silver spot prices in GBP, with "Today" and "Total return" at a glance and a market open/closed indicator

FAQ — Getting Started

What is Bullion?

Bullion is an iPhone app for tracking physical gold and silver. You record what you buy and sell, and the app values your holdings against live GBP spot prices, calculates your cost basis and gains, charts your portfolio value over time, and can alert you when prices move.

Why do I need to sign in with Apple?

Live prices come from our own market-data service, and Sign in with Apple gives your copy of the app a free personal key to it. It takes one tap, and you can choose to hide your email address. Your holdings are never sent to us — signing in is only used to provide prices.

How do I add my existing holdings?

When you first open Bullion, the Welcome sheet offers to create an opening position, or you can start with an empty portfolio. To add holdings at any time, go to the Portfolio or Transactions tab, tap +, and choose Record buy.

How do I record a purchase?

  1. Open the Portfolio tab and tap + > Record buy
  2. Choose By item to pick a coin or bar from the catalogue, or By weight to enter the metal content yourself
  3. Enter the date, quantity, price per troy ounce, any fees, and an optional note
  4. Tap Confirm purchase

How do I record a sale?

Tap + > Record sell. Bullion matches the sale against your oldest purchases first (first-in, first-out) and shows which holdings the sale consumes and the estimated realised gain before you confirm.

How do I track silver as well as gold?

Silver is switched off by default. Turn it on in Settings > Metals > Enable silver. Bullion currently supports gold and silver.

How do I edit or delete a holding?

Swipe the row in the Portfolio or Transactions tab and choose Edit or Delete. A purchase cannot be deleted while a recorded sale depends on it — delete the sale first.

FAQ — Prices & Charts

Where do the prices come from?

Bullion shows gold and silver spot prices in GBP per troy ounce from our own market-data service. Spot is the wholesale market price of the metal, so it will differ from dealer buy and sell prices, which include premiums.

How often do prices update?

By default, no more than every 15 minutes. You can change this to every 5 minutes or every hour in Settings > Price service > Refresh no more than. Pull down on the Dashboard to refresh manually.

Which currencies and units are supported?

Bullion currently values everything in GBP. Holdings can be displayed in troy ounces, grams, or kilograms via Settings > Display > Display unit. Trades are always recorded in troy ounces; the unit only changes how holdings are shown.

Why is my chart empty or short?

The valuation chart builds from the moment you start using the app — each genuinely new price adds a point. It fills in over the following hours and days, and the longer ranges become useful as your history grows.

What does the STALE badge mean?

Bullion could not fetch a fresh price, so it is showing the last saved one. This usually means you are offline. Your holdings and history remain fully available, and prices update as soon as you are back online.

Why is "Today" sometimes blank?

The daily change needs an earlier price from the same day to compare against. If Bullion has not yet seen one, the figure stays blank rather than showing a misleading number.

FAQ — Alerts & Widgets

How do I set a price alert?

Tap the bell icon at the top of the Dashboard, or go to Settings > Price alerts, then tap New alert. Choose Above or Below, enter a threshold in £ per troy ounce, and tap Add alert. Bullion asks for notification permission the first time you create one.

Can I get a regular summary?

Yes. The alerts screen also offers a Daily digest and a Weekly report, each delivered at a time you pick.

My alert arrived late. Why?

iOS decides when apps are allowed to run in the background, so alert timing is best-effort and cannot be guaranteed to the minute. Opening the app regularly and keeping Background App Refresh on gives the best results. Bullion is not intended as a trading signal.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap to add a widget, and search for Bullion. Small, medium, and Lock Screen sizes are available. Touch and hold the widget and choose Edit to set its chart range.

The widget value looks out of date.

The widget shows your portfolio at the last price the app saved and refreshes roughly hourly. Open Bullion to fetch a fresh price and the widget will follow.

FAQ — Data & Privacy

Where is my portfolio stored?

On your iPhone and, if iCloud is available, in your own private iCloud database so it follows you to a new device. You can check the status in Settings > iCloud. We have no access to your holdings.

What data does Bullion send to IngressVC?

Only what is needed to provide prices: a random identifier for your installation, and the Sign in with Apple details Apple shares (an identity token and, if you allow it, your name and email address). Your holdings, transactions, and portfolio value are never sent to us. Bullion contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings > Export and choose Export transactions (CSV) or Export valuation history (CSV). The files open in any spreadsheet app.

How do I lock the app?

Turn on Require Face ID / passcode in Settings > Security. Bullion will then require Face ID or your passcode to open, and hides its contents in the app switcher.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings > Data > Erase all data. This deletes every purchase, sale, price, snapshot, and alert on this device and in iCloud, and cannot be undone. We recommend exporting to CSV first. To sign out of the price service, use Settings > Price service > Sign out.

Is Bullion a broker or tax tool?

No. Bullion keeps your own records against public spot prices. It is not a broker, does not execute trades, is not a tax adviser, and nothing in it is financial advice.

FAQ — Troubleshooting

Prices are not loading.

Try the following:

  1. Check that your iPhone has an internet connection
  2. Pull down on the Dashboard to refresh
  3. Tap Test connection in Settings > Price service
  4. If it still fails, sign out in Settings > Price service and sign in again

My holdings are not appearing on my new iPhone.

Check the following:

  1. Both devices are signed into the same Apple ID
  2. iCloud is enabled for Bullion in the iOS Settings app
  3. Settings > iCloud inside Bullion shows sync as on
  4. Give iCloud a few minutes on a good connection, then reopen the app

I am not receiving alerts.

Make sure notifications are allowed for Bullion in the iOS Settings app, that Background App Refresh is on, and that the alert is enabled in Settings > Price alerts. An alert re-arms only after the price has moved back across your threshold.

The app crashed or I found a bug.
